Dr. A. Miles Olson founded the Laurens office in 1947 after he finished his military dental service in World War II.  He chose Laurens because of its active industrial community and farm businesses.  The practice’s first location was above the Ford garage on the south end of Main Street.  Bertha, his wife, was his first assistant. Many patients still recall their childhood visits to that office, with the stairs being the longest climb they ever made.

In 1964, Dr. Olson – with the help of his son, Jerry, in the high school shop class – designed the plans for a new office building to be located at 111 West Main Street in Laurens.  The colonial brick office would accommodate two dentists and one hygienist.  Throughout the years, Dr. Olson hosted many dentists in his practice.  In 1978, his daughter, Dr. Linda Olson Bieri, joined him.  They were granted many years of practice together.  Dr. Steven W. Christensen joined them in 1986.  The three dentists practiced together until Dr. Olson’s death in 1994.

In 1988, two hygiene operatories and two private offices were added on to the original building.  Since that time, Dr. Bieri and Dr. Christensen have employed two full-time hygienists and an auxiliary staff of ten.  Many of these faithful employees celebrate over forty years together.

In 2004, Dr. Bieri and Dr. Christensen added a satellite location in Spirit Lake, Iowa at 1724 Hill Avenue, Suite 100. Over the next fifteen years, Dr. Bieri and Dr. Christensen were dedicated to both practices, each working five days a week in a combination of schedules to accommodate patient demand.  The Laurens staff supported this expansion at every step.

The goal to add another dentist came to fruition in 2018 when the office of Clay and Associates of Fort Dodge purchased both the Laurens and the Spirit Lake practices. Dr. John Clay and Dr. Shaun O’Neill are the new owners, with Dr. Tyler Wallingford practicing in Laurens.  Dr. Bieri and Dr. Christensen will continue to practice in both locations.  This expansion of dental services allows the practices to continue the long tradition of quality dentistry that was started in 1947.

Dr. Olson lists his philosophy and purpose in life as a trained professional as follows:
“As a trained professional in promoting and maintaining oral health it is my duty and privilege, and my honor to serve my fellow man with competency, with empathy and with love.”

With your support, we will continue to provide comprehensive and state-of-the-art dentistry for decades to come.
